1. When did your country get independent?
Our country got independ firstly in 1918 under the name of Czechoslovakia and then in 1993 we finally became Czech Republic.
2. Who were the first settlers in your country?The Celts were the first settlers.
3. When and from where did the tribes creating the base of your nation come?In the 6th century the Slavonic tribes came from south-eastern Europe, from the territory between Dnieper and Visla.
4. When did your country reach the highest development?It was during Charles the IV reign in the 14th century and then under the rule of Přemysl I. Otakar.
5. What is the darkest period in your history?It is called Baroque. It was after the battle on Bílá Hora and it led to germanisation. Besides that, it was the Russian occupation (1948-1989)
6. Who was the most popular emperor of your country? And which emperor had the major influence on European history?The most popular emperor of our country were Charles IV, Přemysl II. Otakar and Marie Terezie. They had a major influence on european history.
7. Which were the most famous dynastie in your history?The most famous dynasty in our history was the Habsburg monarchy. They ruled over our country between 1526 – 1918, and also the „Přemyslovci“ monarchy after 1306.
8. Which country had the biggest influence on your history?Austria, Germany and Russia had the biggest influence in our country.
9. Are there any important female figurs in your history?A famous female was for instance Eliška Přemyslovna, but the most important female figur in our history was Marie Terezie. She was the first woman to become emperor and she made many reforms in our political system.
10. Have you got a national hero who became famous in your country or all over the world?A national hero who became famous in our country was Jan Amos Komenský (Comenius) and Jan Hus. They were important thinkers. Then Ludvík Svoboda, Tomáš Garique Masaryk and Václav Havel.
11. Was your country ruled over by another country?Our country was ruled by the Austrian- Hungarian empire and by Germany.
12. How did the position of your country change after WWI?We got independent and we were a democratic example for Europe.
13. How did the position of your country change after WWII?After WWII our country was re-declared a Republic but after three years we became a socialistic Republic and were under russian rule.
14. What is the oldest university in your country?It´s Charles university and it was established in1348.
15. When was the capital established?It was established in the 9th century when Slovanic tribes came to Prague´s valley.
16. When did your country join the European Union?It joined the Europeen Union on the1st May 2003.
